The blackboard and the perfect mate.
There is a guy named Peter Backus.
I guess he felt lonely guy back then…
He wrote an article that really showed his state of mind. Here was the title:
“Why I don’t have a girlfriend”.
Backus is an English math wiz. The numbers was what he loved first. But then he taught that it would be great to have a woman on his side (maybe to share his amazing discoveries written on his blackboard).
“I’ve been a single for more than 3 years… That’s enough”, he thought…
But how to find a perfect partner? He decided to crunch the numbers, to link mathematics and love.
Yes, it’s possible it seems.
After 10 notebooks full of numbers and symbols, here was his conclusion.
He had a 1 in 285 000 chance to find the partner of his dream in any given night in London.
1 in 285 000!
What do you want?
“Can I take your order”-The Universe serving at your table.
Backus wrote a list of the qualities his girlfriend should have. His beloved must be university educated. He believed that only 1 in 20 of the women in his target group was attractive.
C’mon, Peter…
Well, he ended up with this number: they are only 10 510 women in the whole UK that could be his perfect match.
But wait…
How many of those ladies would find him attractive?
“A Depressive low number”, he realized.
Ok. Now, a math wiz says that there are far more chances that there are extra terrestrials out there than one can find his or her perfect mate.
But you know what?
Today, Peter Backus is married!
Playing with the number.
Ladies, do you want to know how many men you will have to date before you find the perfect mate?
Well the Optimal Stopping Theory will answer your question. If you reject the guys 37% of your date time and you pick up the very next man, that one will be better than all the dudes you have seen before.
You have your answer!
But a number is just that: a number. Every day, you will see and hear people “beating the odds”. Those women are around you, on TV or sharing their experience on the web.
Why that constant miracle? Because you can’t sum up human relationship with mathematics. Magic does happens to those who are waiting for it.
After all those calculations, how did Backus has found her girlfriend, Rose?
Well she is simply “a friend of a friend”.
Beat the odds!
Yes, you can beat the odds. Even if you are not a math fan concerning the human relationship, they are some lessons that you can learn from this story.
- First, Backus has found that it is possible to find love (even if, finally, his text was a bit negative).
- Know what you want. What kind of mate are you looking for? Write a short list of some qualities your man should have. Do you want to marry someone who loves to dance, music, and arts in general? Maybe you prefer to live with an athlete?
- Know that if you have your preferences, men do have their own. You will see that, sometimes, a guy will start a conversation with a woman just on your side and not even look at you. Don‘t take it personal! It’s part of game. Just like you do sometimes, that man is making his choice. His list was written way before you have seen him.
- Don’t forget the “friends of the friends” technique. This is the best idea to beat the odds fast. Don’t stay at home. Go to the evening your friends organize. If they don’t throw parties, you can organize one and invite them. Tell them to bring their own friends.
Even better that the real thing.
Can you imagine how Backus found his girlfriend?
I guess nobody will know exactly how except his close friend and his family.
But I have my own theory about that. I will share it with you.
Peter Backus immersed himself in his passion. He had fun playing with the numbers. He used a great title that had been a hook and finally got notice by the public (to hear one of his public speaking, please click Here ).
I mean, wow. What a great way for anybody to start a conversation this the math wiz!
Do the same. Do what you love best. Don’t forget to have fun. Practice your hobby; go out with your friends. Allow yourself to feel great inside. Maybe you will not give a lecture to a group of people like Backus did. But men will notice your vibration. They will feel that you are a special, passionate woman (remember a lot of men have tendencies to think that a passionate woman is a kind of sexy woman).
Love
